Wooly surprise

I watched Dr Alice Roberts talking about wooly mammoths today. They have apparently replicated the blood of mammoths,  more efficient at releasing oxygen apparently. Using bone marrow form a recent find is being used to clone a mammoth. The results should be out in about five years. They have an almost complete DNA sequence.

Most surprisingly, mammoths hair could be any colour. A recent find was strawberry blonde!

Just what we need, woolly mammoths!

I gather this is for the oxygen/blood info? Just had quite a scary thought now, remember Dolly the sheep?

    • The oxygen / blood information has already been proved using lab mice!!!! (I think they certainly know the properties of the blood and were using mice) I think they are talking of making a mammoth just cos they can.

I’d completely forgotten poor old Dolly, wonder what happened to her, produced in perpetuity for leg of lamb perhaps 😦

      • Vicky says:

OMG that could be even more interesting, I’ve always been of the understanding that elephants are scared of mice, if they use mice in the process does that mean there’ll be a load of mammoths that are scared of each other.
Or will we get mice sized mammouths or mammouths sized mice.
Yikes, I think I’ve had too many Peronis 😉

      • As long as they don’t live in my house I think mammoth sized mice would be quite amusing!
